Park and Shop: Site Review

Park and Shop Website Logo

One of things I love about this site (apart from the name which I think is way cool) is that when you come to the home page, it’s alive. There’s two windows showing what they are selling, one above one lower down the page. And they shift every two seconds or so. It should be intrusive and annoying but it’s not, it just feels straight away that this is a site that has got its act together. It’s an online store for iPad, iPhone and iPod accessories. And just in case you’ve been on the moon for the last few [...]

PR olloclip(tm) Combo 16 (12-2-11)

Olloclip is a must-have accessory for iPhone photographers Most professional photographers will always agree that the best camera is the one they have with them at any given moment. And the camera of choice for many people today is the ubiquitous iPhone4 or 4S. With the 5 megapixel image from the iPhone 4 and the 8 megapixel image from the 4S, many people don’t feel the need to carry a larger, more cumbersome camera any longer. One reason many people used to carry a DSLR camera was the need to use interchangeable lenses. So many scenes just cry out for [...]

Nokia PureView group

Nokia drew a lot of attention to itself on Friday when it released an advert for its upcoming 808 PureView filmed on the PureView itself. Watch the two minute video in high definition, and you’d be hard pressed to distinguish it from any other advert you might see on television. Of course there are differences between the quality of a film recorded by a top of the range television camera and one made with a mobile phone, but if you didn’t know in advance, they’re not ones you’d know to pick up on. The explanation behind the superior quality of [...]

On Easter Monday (April 9th), Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be acquiring the photo-sharing app Instagram, a purchase reported to have been agreed at the price of $1 billion. The acquisition comes at a perfect time. Instagram’s user base has been rising steadily since it was launched in March 2010, and with its recent (as in, last week) extension of its services to Android (as well as iOS) users, the alarm bells must have started ringing for Zuckerberg and his team. After all, other features aside, there is an argument for saying that photo-sharing made Facebook what it is [...]

Machines That Listen: Is Voice Control the Future?

Fifteen years ago, the concept of using your voice to control a computer or phone was little more than a background project for many of the big names in software development. For the general public, it was basically science fiction. In TV show Friends, which was in its heyday at this time, a millionaire software developer jokes to Monica about a future in which computers will be able to understand us saying ‘do my homework’, or ‘clean my room’, but won’t actually be able to do any of those things. Monica responds with a silly voice: ‘Will it be able [...]
